Center Channel Question/ buying with Receiver?
« on: 28 Apr 2014, 01:36 pm »
How much better is movie sound with a center as opposed to just using floor standers?
Can I play the center channel alone for tv viewing and add the floor standers for movies with disconnecting any wires?

Guy here is selling Onkyo TX-sr 603x
And Polk center CS-1      for $150 total.  Do I jump on this??
Thanks , Todd

Some people like the phantom set up.  This is with two towers and no center, but if you get to far off center, it does not work out for some listeners.  I know nothing about the 603, but if you are just wanting to get in you need the following for future....  hdmi in and out, are there preamp outs?,

I don't think this will allow you to just use center channel for tv viewing, I just use the front three speakers when viewing regular tv, or just the tvs own speaker.  My kids us the ALL speaker stereo for games and things.  I only use all speakers when listening to movies in surround sound, tv no..

For a 150 bucks..  go for it.

Thanks very much JP!! I actually got him down to $125, seems like a no brainer.
I'm going to go for it.
So does the center Chanel handle the dialogue? And the left and right play the sound track? Or is this all played together through all three?

Depends on the setting.  Most of the time I can get mine to run the majority of dialogue through center and rest of info through towers.  For 125, play with it and see what happens.  Worst case, it goes to the garage for music.  JP
