Has anyone seen the Pro-end Samsung DVDp?

The DVD-HD1000 up-converts your regular DVD to HD quality video which is 480i to 720p or 1080i format.  That's a max 720 lines of resolution.  It uses Farouja DCDi chip.  It can also decode DVD-A and HDCD.

I was teching it out last night in my own living room and I would say it's worth every dollar!  The unit weighs 40Lbs! :o   This DVDp is designed for Videophiles

So its interpolation actually makes it look better?  That seems like a miracle!  How much does one go for?

Not familiar with that model but you can buy a Zenith 318 for 160.00 that upconverts to 1080i through either component or dvi cabling.

It also has an auto start mode that skips the preveiws, FBI warnings ect, and goes right to playing the movie after pushing play.

This player also has DCDI and is easy to make regeion free like mine currently is.

Unless this is a new model, AVS had plenty of threads about this Samsung last year.  Harvey's in New York got a batch, and it required a firmware update or software upgrade of some kind in order to upconvert protected content.  But those who got one (for about $1500.00, if I recall correctly) seemed pleased.

It's not a new model and they are now $699! :!:  It works well with HDTV monitor, LCD, Plasma or projector screens etc. Yes...it's modern technology

Levi,

Are these still available new?  I read lots about them in the spring of 2003 when a few people on AVS were getting their hands on them from Harvey's, but haven't seen much since.  I was under the impression that they were no longer available.  Or, if they were available, that they couldn't upscale protected DVDs.  The people on AVS were getting a new firmware installed by Harvey's that allowed the player to upscale everything over component.

It always looked like a very impressive machine, especially given that 40 pound weight.

I bought mine at Harveys...I would call them for availability.  I would also check videogon com since Harvey are also auctioning them :D

The firmware upgrade allows it to work smoothly with all the DVDs.  This is a videophile level quality playback.  DVD-A sound is excellent.

Ears,
I would agree with ya on the Zenith 318. Great features; auto skip, upconverting, picture quality & price. Great budget player for the money.

The Zenith 318 does have "videophile quality" PQ already.  It's amazing how fast technology moves forward and price drops.

But for those who need 1080i upconversion via component, you better buy the Zenith right now as the new firmware that just got released disables 1080i component upconversion for copy-protected DVD's.

I thought they already disabled the component upconversion? Or am I mistaken? :?:

There's always the Momitsu V880:
  • up-conversion to 720p/1080i over component
  • region-free
  • macrovision turned off
  • DVI-I output (analog and digital)
  • phenomenal picture quality
  • supports custom resolutions
  • firmware updates
  • works really well as a CD transport

When you look inside the V880, it looks more like an HTPC than a DVD player.

The player is not perfect though. It does take a while to read some discs and is a bit noisy.

You want to try and get a pre June 2004 build and you should be home free.

Note: DO NOT install the firmware they've put out for this machine. It was supposed to fix the minimal white crush that exists over DVI. There are mixed results on that, depending on who you talk to.

What it does definitely do is botch up the component upconversion considerably.

    Be ye aware!
