Bay Area Hi End audio shops?
« on: 18 Aug 2004, 04:30 pm »
I'm planning a visit to the Bay Area soon and am very interested in listening to some speakers and amplifiers, especially tube. Can someone give me some pointers about where to go listen? I would especially like to hear the difference between some high end digital amps (evo), and would also like to hear sim audio amplifiers.

AudibleArts and the Analog Room are both good places in the South Bay area.

the analog room is definately the place to go if you want to listen to some good old analog gear. Not even sure if they have any SS amps in there. Nice selection of speakers too: Avalon, Quad, Piega.

Also try Music Lovers in Berkeley. While not a tube shop, they do have a range of Wilson products (X2, WP7, Sophias) and Joeseph Audio gear. They have some CJ tube amps, not sure if they're using them though.

There's also San Francisco Stereo for Dynaudio, B&W, Rotel and Krell.

Audio Visions in San Francisco has Dali and JMRenauld, with bryston and sim audio gear.

There are many many more: Audio High in Mountain View, Paradise in San Jose.

Is there anything in particular you're looking to see?

Is audible difference in palo alto still around or worth going to anymore?  I heard Bay Area Audio is very good too.  I think it's in Mountain View.

I think Audible Difference reopened recently. Might be a different owner/name, but the location has a dealer again. I *think* they carry Wilson, Classe, Martin Logan.
