AKSA 100 N+ Monoblocks

Hello everyone,

I just received my AKSA 100 N+ (thank you Hugh!!) and think I would like to assemble them as monoblocks. I was just going through the gallery looking at the excellent work many of you have done. However I didn't see any pictures of AKSAs as monoblocks.

I would definately be interested in talking with anyone who has done this and to kick around some chassie ideas.

There is a nice one there.

There is a gorgeous monoblock implementation of the AKSA here as well.

Hi, Bruce,

My Gallery pictures are probably confusing you because they show 3 AKSA modules in the one box. However, this box is fed by another box containing 3 separate power supplies (including separate power cords).

IE. I have built my AKSAa as monoblocks but, physically, they look like 2 x 3-channel amps.

You'll just have to saw the power supply PCB in half!

Of course, if you build them as 'true' monoblocks, you'll have plenty of room in each case for transformer, PS PCB, AKSA module and heatsink.

Very nice job on your monoblock!! Since the 100 N+ heat sink is so large I was thinking about cutting a bit of it off then thought better of it. (Don't worry Hugh I'm not going to do it!!) I'm playing with the idea of an asymetrical case design. I'm thinking of mounting the heat sink on the side of the case as in a typical stereo amp, but it will be a monoblock instead. Can't decide if it will look too goofy or not...

I'm still waiting on the Plitrons so I've got some time to think about it.

Is Andrew Gartside's the AKSA100n+ ? The power cap are BIG!!

Anyway, a photo of my about to finish aksa100n mono block. I am having a lot of problem with SS case.

Well, I got a bit of extra space in the middle so I though of adding some small value cap to increase the speed. They are 10% of the power cap. All this was before Hugh release his aksa100n+.

I had another crazy idea last night

I have always loved the look of those big blue power meters on the front of McIntosh amps. Has anyone ever added a meter to their AKSA? Hugh what are the chances that adding a meter would change (mess up!!) the sonics of your wonderful amp?

Interesting idea; a pal here in Melbourne had this idea as well.

However, the run a VU meter requires quite a bit more circuitry, almost as complicated at the amp itself. Together with the VU meters themselves, the quality of this circuitry determinates the accuracy of the meters. It can be done without damaging the sonics of the amp, no question, but it requires an additional power supply, typically +/-15V to run an opamp.
