I couldn't find a better sub-forum to post this request because this is where I see most of the DODD activity.

If anyone has any ideas for a better forum to post in, or the moderator wants to place this posting in another forum, please let me know or do so!

I'm interested in hearing any DODD preamp variants, particularly those using the 6H30P-DR tubes, preferably the variable gain preamp.

I use 10wpc SET amps and 107db/w horn speakers. My source is 3.5V, so I don't really need a linestage with gain given my existing system gain structure factors, but I want to know how the DODD preamps sound.

Please PM me any ideas!   :D

Much thanks!

The Dodd battery tube buffer might be a better fit for your situation. It can be configured to use the 6h30-dr super tube. Maybe Gary can build you one...I am not sure if his health allows him to do so but you could ask.

Hear Clifford Brown

Gary can build you whatever you want.  He finished my VG preamp about 3 weeks ago.  And he really needs the income.

Hi Filament,

I own a Dodd VGP. It started life as a Dodd battery buffer but then after several upgrades Gary offered to add a gain stage so it is now a full-fledged battery VGP. The gain stage was added to add gain when using a phono pre-amp which did not have sufficient gain. Right from its first incarnation Gary's equipment has been mind-blowing. And he is a very nice guy to deal with. The support you see from him is because he has many very very satisfied customers.

If you have the resources to buy a new piece of equipment from him I would wholeheartedly encourage you to do so. He needs the work right now.

I'm in Sonoma County.  I  have the Dodd Battery Gen 2 preamp with a 6H30DR tube.  Very resolving and musical.  Hard to beat for $1700 new.

I have a buffer with the 12/6 volt switch, it's very versatile. The tube options for it, are as versatile as you can get.
And every tube it runs is dead quite.

I haven't ever needed gain. And I have used it ahead of SS and tube amps without any issues. Driving some 4 ohms speakers with 88 db sensitivity rating.

The 12/6 volt switch is awesome.!

(Imho, the VGP would change the sonics and make it even better, in some setups. You can't go wrong, if you can have/have not gain, just another great option. )
