I really like my DL-S1. I wonder if I should try getting it re-tipped when worn, or just buy a back up right now. Does anyone have any experience on re-tipping this cartridge?

No indication of anything other than the discontinued items which includes two transformers.  They might be discontinuing the 304 also.  It didn't appear on the list of items, but it also doesn't appear on the list of current items. 

I think it would be relatively inexpensive to have retipped.  It's some kind of HE nude mount on a tapered aluminum cantilever.  Check with Andy Kim.  If you change to a ruby cantilever it will dramatically change the voicing.  If you send it to Soundsmith a level 1 would be close to original.  I'm not sure what the difference is in tip dimensions.  I believe level 1 is a .3 x .7.
