ABEX--We each have our own opinions but I beg to disagree. I will put my system up against yours any day and I don't want to sound as cocky or as air headed as you but I have done this as a serious hobby for 30 years and I agree that some high end gear is way over priced for what it delivers. If you are ever in the SF Bay area and would like an audition I have done this many times for people like yourself all with very satisfying results

I realize the internet's a big place, and I'm just one little cog in the Grammar Police, so I've given up correcting posts (marking the mistakes with my red marker was really messing up the monitor anyway). Had the term "idiot" not come up, I think I could have held my tongue.

BTW, there's a DIY Aurio/ Symposium Rollerblock using metal cabinet knobs with a ball bearing in the concave?/convex? surface. I'll try to track down a link.

One:
I bet you have a killer system and it is well worth what you are able to pay for it.but with my meager budget I try to put things in that will not add up to a house or a luxury condo.

I live in Maine which is pretty much audio nowheresVille USA ,but have lived alot of places and have heard some SOTA system's.Hard to get great stuff here.

I do know people that use to work for NEAR here and I got my speaker's through them for a small cost.They are modified and sound great.

Another thing is having the room to put speaker's in.Here in the NE we do not normally have big spacious rooms because of heating cost so having Maggies which I did at one time is pretty much out of the question.In fact the maggies I had I did a side by side with using $350 vs. $2K and there was no comparsion.The modified NEAR's beat them hands down.

Did not mean to be a smart A$$ ,but I really cannot justify spending alot on Audio when there are more important things in life to spend it on.Just don't have it for one thing and I would not for another even if I did.But this is america and to each their own.

There's a Lou Reed song that say's it best ,"Who needs another Million Dollar Movie or a Million Dollar Car" .Not that I am a great giver either,I have been takin for alot!

If the tweeks give you what you need then that is all that counts.You are the most important person when it comes to being satisfied,no one else!

Lastly,seeing that you are into the Biz what amps would you use in a 3-way Active XO system with Metal Driver's?

I have absolutely no problem coming up with a correct sentence or an original thought. When I said that you should get a life, I meant that from the botom of my heart without having to dig into a bag of cliches. There is no reason to try and insult other people when they have done nothing to warrant that insult. If you have a problem with incorrect grammar on the net keep it to yourself. Noone is interested in stupid posts like yours that spoil good threads that have absolutely nothing to do with making sure that all of the punctation and speling is correct. Keep it lighthearted, life is already too serious as it is, especially during these times. Anyway, Abex that was a good one.

Yeah great idea. Instead let's ignore it and choose to remain willfully ignorant of the rules in a place where communication is based entirely upon the written word.

The fact remains that bad spelling\grammar makes a person look stupid in an online forum, wether or not they truly are. (everyone makes typos, but those are not the same as not knowing how to use the correct spelling or phrasing) While it's important to not be rude, the act of correcting someone in itself is not inherently insulting. It's helpful if the receiver chooses to use the information. Why should we sit idly by and not let them know the right way to spell it? If there's anything I hate it's backlash against those who promote proper spelling and grammar. Why are you sticking up for ignorance? It has nothing to do with being too serious. You may disagree with Tonto Yoder's delivery, but the message was factual and not open to argument. Yeah, he could be a dick and go around busting everyone's balls for every undotted i and uncrossed t, but I don't think that's the case.

So, for the record I am interested in "stupid posts" like that. This forum is entirely text-based. So learn to write and you will be better off. That is not to say ABEX is a bad guy, nor do I think he is that terrible at spelling! It just means I give a

Thank you JohnR for bringing that up. I did indeed misspell 'whether'. (It seems pretty a pretty common misspelling actually, "wether or not" returns quite a few Google hits) I was talking about a castrated sheep it seems!

See, now instead of me saying "You moron, who cares about that crap!?" I looked up the word he called me on and I saw that I misused it. I learned something in the process. Imagine that.

FWIW, Listener mag's Rob Doorack reviewed several tweaks including the Symposium Rollerblocks which are also ball bearings rolling in a cup-shaped surface (similar in principle to Aurios). He specifically mentioned the DIY Aurio/Rollerblocks as well, clearly stating that the commercially available products are EXECUTED so well as to make comparison to DIY ridiculous. For instance, the surface of the Rollerblocks is polished to such an extreme degree that any DIY equivalent (knobs or spoons) couldn't hope to achieve. Rob seems to be one of the sensible voices of the internet, so I'm inclined to give credence to his opnions.

Still, the Symposiums are $300/ set; the DIY alternative seems wise for those who don't want to spend that kind of $$--if they don't work out, one can always toss them in a drawer without suffering much loss. And even if things don't work out, a person can STILL have some fun doing the tweak.

I think the most relevant DIY thing I have found is the Balls & Stones Post.

I have made up some Black Pencils painted Flat Black which I will use till I get to a chinese resturant or maybe Chinatown in Boston.Being snowed in is not fun.Sort of felt like Jack Nicholson in the Shining here.That might have a bearing(no pun intended) on some of my post.

Just cannot justify spending that kind of long green on any tweek!

Really would not even buy Mapleshades version of 3 sticks and a rubberband for $40.

Been thinking about what to do with about 5pks of pencils anyway and that seemed like a great way of using them.

Now all I need to do is get some Marble slabs.Have one from a chess set I picked up in mexico I could use for my TT Base.

Still searching for DIY Tweeks and will post what might be worthy!
