Looking for an affordable USB DAC, under $100!
« on: 24 Feb 2014, 07:36 pm »
Hi there,

I am listening to Headphones at work via Musical Fidelity X-CAN tube headphone amp and the Sennheiser HD650.  I will be using JRiver media player v.19 and want to know what options there are out there to run a decent USB Dac to the headphone amp?

I know of the Schiit Modi, but what else is out there and what do you guys like?

Thanks!

Having recently been in the market for a USB DAC in this price range, I can comment.

I considered used and new, so my list might not interest you if you are set on new only.

I ended up buying an HRT Music Streamer II used, which I understand they have just discontinued.  It plays 16/44.1 well, and will play my 24/48, 24/88.2 and 24/96 FLAC too.

Other DAC's I considered, and would have bought if they presented themselves include:

Audioquest Dragonfly (either version frankly)
Devilsound USB
JDS Labs ODAC

Thanks All...

Has anyone heard of the Emerald Physics DAC 2?  I know it's a little more though, roughly $350!
Feedback?
