Want to buy - tubed headphone amplifier
« on: 22 Feb 2014, 11:03 pm »
It's been a long time since I've been around - but with a new office and job, comes a new opportunity for a stereo rig :)

I'm looking for a headphone amp at first, or maybe a small integrated amp with good headphone-driving ability. Tubes, of course ;)

Something like a Bottlehead SEX would be perfect, but I've been out of the hi-fi world for so long that I don't know what else is out there now. Decware may be over my budget, at least for anything capable of driving headphones...

I check my email more often than here for now, "jimj" "at" "vt.edu". Thanks!

Well it would help to now what headphones the amp will be driving. Especially since impedance matching would be key for a tube amp.

That's kind of up in the air, so I didn't have a solid answer...I tend to like the Sennheiser open ones I've heard, but I haven't decided completely on a budget I'm comfortable with yet :)

As with speakers, I'd choose headphones first, then the amp. If you can't audition locally, check out the Cable Company's headphone lending library.
