Bryston BDA-1 Power on issues
« on: 17 Feb 2014, 10:22 pm »
Has anyone encountered issues with the Bryston BDA-1 having difficulty powering on? I heard of this issue from a seller when I enquired about purchasing his unit. He claims that occasionally it takes upwards of 10 attempts to power the unit up. He claims that you need to repeatedly press the power button. He stated that it has occurred on the 3 different bda-1s he has owned but it did not occur with his bda-2.

Has anyone experienced this issue.

I have had my BDA-1 for about 4 years and there has never been any problem with it.

Hi! Six months ago I purchased a BDA-2 and it had the very same problem you are describing. Sometimes the machine just wouldn't turn on. I thought it happened only when the input was set to USB but I was wrong. It happened on all inputs. However, the malfunction was sporadic and sometimes it would work perfectly and I experienced no other problems. Still, I contacted Bryston support and they sent me a replacement machine which is now perfect. The distributor told me they weren't able to replicate the conditions in which the malfuction occurs but still, they sent me a new replacement machine.

I must also mention that my specific BDA-2 was a custom order with RCA instead of BNC inputs and so Bryston did the same thing for the replacement machine as well. I think that speaks enough about their dedication and customer care. For this reason, owning their equipment makes me very happy.

Cheers!
