Hi jeffh and all Audio Circle members.
Do you know what make and model of headphone they are using/modifying?
How can a pair of 40 Ohms headphones can work properly on a Crack headphone amplifier that is optimized for high impedance headphones (300 - 600 Ohms) ?

This one:

It breaks a few rules like pretty much every Bottlehead product. We start with a low impedance headphone that just might be the most bang for the buck can in existence, the Monoprice 8323. Yes we include it in the kit! One of the cool things about the 8323 is that the cable unplugs from the cans, thus you can try different cables. So we cooked up a cable that helps the Crack to run happily with these 40 ohm headphones and really opens up the top end. The cable is Mogami, the connectors are Neutrik and Switchcraft and the cover is from Tech Flex. And there is a little extra surprise in the cable that allows the headphone to work so well with Crack.

Best,
Anand.

Doc says in the email that went out that there is "a little" something or secret in the cable that he provides. Perhaps a resistor or resistors to allow the Crack to see a higher impedance?

That would be my guess judging from my boldfaced quote above. It's not hard to do.

Are there any detriments?  I'd like to have a tube-based amp for my headphones (my last tube-based amp just died), but I'm currently using headphones with 32 ohms.  The amp they recommend for lower resistance headphones is several hundred dollars more.  I'd rather just put in a resistor.

not to change the subject too much but how difficult is it to build  Bottlehead headphone amp.  I have absolutely no experience soldering or anything like that .  i would love to try though, just dont want to make a fiasco out of it. any words of encouragement ?
