4BSST^2 - Buy One Now Or Wait For Next Gen?

I'm seriously considering getting one but, with the current iteration now around 5 years old, I'm a bit concerned that its replacement might be on the horizon.

OK, good question but in that case you should never drive because there will be a new car every time after you buy one.
The 4b is a very nice amp to have regardless of any generation and you will not be disappointed.

I can say with confidence the SST² series have a huge ability to stay ahead of ANY upgrades i am doing. i am very confident my current 4B-SST² can meet ANY needs I will have in the foreseeable futuree. And I am really fussy.
So with that, as a really demanding owner, you can buy a SST² and be certain it can handle any fine system needs for YEARS AND YEARS to come.

+1 from a proud Bryston 4B-SST2 owner!  :thumb:

My Bryston amp replaced 2 x Linn Akurate 4200 power amps and I have absolutely no regrets.  It's one amazing power amp!

Well I still run my 4B ST  (1999) :weights: and it has (is) still surprising me with it's ability to keep up with all the improvements made along the chain. If the sst is more refined than I think you are safe to just get one ( before Bryston discontinues it . LOL) :

Doug,
I went through the same dilemma but went ahead with a new 4BSST2 because it was such a huge upgrade in my system. I don't think I'll ever regret it.  It sounds great.  Spending $5k on an amp, I'm going enjoy the heck out of it without second guessing my decision and research.  I also bought a BDA-1 a month before the BDA-2 was announced. I was a little bummed but I'm so happy with it I really don't think it's worth the jump to the BDA-2. My new system is killer and the 4BSST2 is the heart of it.

I have owned a 4B-SST (original series) from Jan. 2004 up until last month and also still own a 4B-SST C Series, the next iteration of the series and now also own a pair of 28B-SST2 amps and the sonic characteristic across the 3 generations is very similar, certainly no night and day differences in my opinion so I wouldn't worry about a new generation if one even comes in the next couple years to sound significantly different unless Bryston starts making tube amps or goes all digital or all Class A  :green: Like you when I heard that Bryston was updating their amps back in 2005/2006 I was very nervous because I still needed a 2nd 4B and a 6B. Luckily the C Series was still undeniably Bryston and my worries were put to rest.

The 4B is a great amp and I wouldn't' wait for something that may not come for a number of years. Get it now and enjoy, that's my recommendation.

Every day you wait..........and wait, you miss out on enjoying the now factor.
I to have amps from 06(4Bsst+7bSST)would I upgrade, sure if I had some mo money.
Almost bought a used pair of 7B-SST2 out of the US,but the seller wouldn't give me the original bill of sale.
Was going to sell the 4 and have the 7's for surround duties.
I wouldn't wait ENJOY now.

It was said many posts ago that the hi end amps ,as they are, are as good as they will ever ( be except for  added features). Buying in at his point you won't miss out. :thumb: :thumb:

My thanks to everyone for the responses. I ordered one (4BSST²) this morning from my local dealer. He said it would take around two weeks to arrive. Looking forward to it.

ahh drummermitchell you're the one that scored the 7's. I was looking at those, I have 7's pre s/n 1825 and 17" black faceplates. Its cheaper to sell mine rather than get upgrades done and faceplates changed!

Fullvolume,sorry about that :green:..
Tried scoring a set on Agon but seller wouldn't give up the bill of sale .
Then these bad boys showed up on Cam,so I traded in my 4Bsst on them +some coin.
Yes upgrades can cost around a grand per amp if doing trans and caps.
My 28s can't receive the new trans as something to do with the chassis but I do believe they have the new caps.
It fine as I use the 60a Torus for them and a 7b-sst for center duty.
Seems the prices have come down on 7's and 28's as far as I have seen with some sellers.
Used 4Bsst is around 23-2500 depending on age.
