I would guess it would depend upon WHAT needs to be rebuilt but am curious to know if this might be an ok deal...

$50 for a pair of Von Schweikert speakers? I'd say yes. Then figure out what needs to be rebuilt or how you might want to repurpose the cabinets.

It would help if you could find out just what needs to be done.  Then, call VSA (951 682-0706) and see what it would cost.  I'll bet it will still be a great buy.

Unless they are totally trashed, I don't think there is too much risk in $50, but then I'm told I think every piece of old gear has more value than other people realize :)

Well I'm told the drivers are fried "god knows what else" :)  Doesn't sound too encouraging :)

Still, for $50, I'd ask VSA what the worst case cost would be.  It just takes a phone call.

$50 was too rich for your blood? Hell drivers in general aren't  that pricey. Nor are crossover parts. Play around or ask around about what you could put in those enclosures if the crossovers and/or drivers are shot. But maybe drivers can be repaired, or bad crossover parts can be replaced.

For $50, grab em and have fun with them

Hello everybody, I own a pair of Vortex Screens those with 2 x 8" woofers. Both woofers are defective, the surrounds disintegrated. If anyone has identified the woofers used in these speakers, I would highly appreciate if he/she can let me know, they are from denmark.
I was unable to find fitting surrounds and have to replace the drivers. If I knew their Thiele Small parameters it would help a lot. Does anyone know the schematics of the crossover in these speakers ? or do you know the crossover frequencies ? I am grateful for any information, best regards Marc

Chano, regarding your Vortex Screens woofers replacement, why don't you ask the person that designed and built them, Albert Von Schweikert.  VSA's number is  951 682-0706.

Starkiller, the questions about the Vortex Screen speakers were posted in the Von Schweikert Audio circle.  I assumed this indicated that folks knew these were Albert's products even though they were produced prior to VSA.

Have you had a chance to touch base with someone at VSA about repair potential and cost?

Never did touch base as I figured out that I really have no place for them to linger while I figure out what to do with them...don't even have room in the garage for them :duh:

If I had the alternative, I would do following  with the Vortex Screens if  still possible.  Also those have magnificient engeneering in them as always.
