Dirac DSP software
« on: 28 Jan 2014, 10:46 am »
Yesterday I was browsing the net and ran across an app for
the Iphone called Dirac HD.  It purpose is to improve the
audio from the stock earpods.  Well I tried it and I was
impressed.  You should try it if you have that setup.

The real question is why hasn't this been used or talked about
in this forum?  I believe it runs on the same principles as
the emerald physics speakers.  I wasn't so sure I believed
the technology would make an appreciable difference on the
audio quality heard, but after trying the free version of the
iphone app I must say I'm really intrigued as to what it
can do for computer based audio.  It works both on PC and
MACs.  It is also used by auto manufactures Bently and BMW.

If my research is correct I believe Oppo is using it also.  I still
have to investigate that more.

I've used the app since its release .. impressed indeed! Helps to make those crappy earbuds sound quite a bit better. I use Amarra Symphony w/iRC, which is an integrated Amarra/Dirac module, on my Mac mini. It was game-changing for me. It's a bit on the expensive side but was well worth it for me .. YMMV of course. Lot's of info on computeraudiophile.com about Symphony w/iRC and the stand-alone Dirac software.
