Bryston bluray player

Hello!

Considering the wide acceptance factor of Bryston's SP3 surround processor, has Bryston considered making a bluray player?

Cheers!

Hi

We have considered it but given the many changes occurring in video not really a long term product.

What about a player that is like the BDP-2 only for video.
Had a friend who  put 5 movies on a USB drive and played it thru my Oppo 95 which takes USB or disc .
Seems to me that a player like that could be upgraded as changes come along thru software upgrades.
Just like the BCD-1 which is a CD disc player and not missed at all anymore now we have total convenience with the BDP's with excellent sound, convenience, storage ect.
Seems like a BVP-1 is just around the corner for streaming or using TD's and external storage for movies.

Hi James!

Thanks! I do hope however that BOT-1 is a definitive go!

Cheers!

Not missing the BCd1 is a matter of opinion. Not every one plays the download game.

True enough, but unless you have had both to compare which I have, there is no contest as there are to many +'s for the BDP's
Never thought I'd give up my BCD-1 and I have had her for 6yrs.
Superb upgrade even on the audio side, which if was mediocre I'd still have  the BCD-1.

I had a BCD-1 and while it wasn't the Alpha and the Omega of disc players, I think calling it "mediocre" is a bit much. It was a good unit.
And yes, I've heard both BDP's and both BDA's many times. They're fine, too. The second-generation BDA is a fair bit better than the first to my ears with the DAC chip-set change FWIW.

Different paths taken to arrive at the same destination. I'll say one thing I've noticed about BDP owners, though - it's hard to listen to music with them. You just wanna snatch that iPad out of their bloody hands and scream "ENOUGH ALREADY !! Stop flitting between songs for a minute and just let the damned music play..."  Those units should come with a prescription for Ritalin. Honestly.  :green:

But that's just my opinion ...and I could be wrong.

DD,either I mistyped or you misread about the BCD-1.
I was saying IF the BDP was mediocre(IF)..I'd still have the BCD-1.
Years ago I auditioned it against ARC's top cdp (CD-3) I believe it was called then for 10 G's,
plus Arcam's top cdp.
I ABC'd them using the ARC 3 pre for 2-3 hr and came out with the BCD-1 with no regrets and for a few years I really wanted that Arc.
Was easy to A+B with a turn of the knob instead of the cable swap.
The BCD was a no brainer, now the BDP is the same only with more positives besides the audio.
No more hunting thru 500+cds for one song, damn I hate that ..

Yes, some people shouldn't have the remote in their hands. Like my brother likes to watch commercials, that's when you are suppose to jump channels or channel surf. Of course with Bell controlling most of the channels they time it so there's a commercial on all their channels at the same time. So you can't win. :(

This would be a nice addition to the Bryston lineup. A video disc transport to go with the SP3.
