Give a listen to a Conrad Johnson ART Mono Blocks (special edition) and a GAT preamp.

http://www.conradjohnson.com/It_just_sounds_right/artamp.html

http://www.conradjohnson.com/It_just_sounds_right/gatpre.html

there is a GAT preamp for sale on Audiogon right now for $14K down from $20K

Read the reviews.  Your vocals and midrange will never sound better.  If I had an unlimited budget, these would be at the head of the class.

Hadn't seen those mono-blocks before. Yes, a must hear pair!

I went to their site but they did not specify the input scheme. I suppose that are single ended.

All CJ gear is single ended.  Don't be limited to XLR's.  I have a Pass Labs X250 amp and I can't tell the difference between the XLR and RCA inputs with my Pass Labs X1 Preamp.  Any benefit of XLR's would be minimal when considering it to the sound of a great preamp like the GAT.  In fact I am probably going to sell my X1 and go with a single ended tube preamp like a CJ ET-3se unless I go with a BAT.

Give a listen to the CJ's if you have a chance.

At your budget, and with the amps you're replacing, I'd be inclined to short-list the Shaman offering from Raven Audio

Have fun,

David Berning Quadrature Z monoblocks in their current 220 wpc configuration can be had for $33.000 per pair. I would strongly urge you to audition them before considering anything else.i have listened to many great high end amplifiers and I have yet to hear any amplifier best the Berning amps.                   http://davidberning.com/products/qz

With this ample budget you must consider the Lampizator amps.
The GM70 amp:
http://www.monoandstereo.com/2013/09/lampizator-gm70-amplifier-test-review.html
And even more the 211 amp, because there is avaliable now the fantastics new 211 Elrog tube:
http://www.lampizator.eu/newdac/lampizator/AMPLIFIER_-_211.html

The 211 ELROG seems to me a better option than the vintage 211 from RCA or WE cause its new, not resting 50 years on a shelf:

Terrific suggestions!
I would continue with Kronzilla, BAT REX, and Tenor.
I'm listening with BAT VK-150SE monoblocks.

Best,

Sam

I wonder if he posted this and threw out such a high budget just to sit back and watch us go nuts!

Well, I was really a little dissatisfied due to the reliability issues of the ARC. The ARC has since been fixed & I am enjoying music again. I have asked my dealer to look for a buyer for my second pair.

In the meantime, I am hoping the repaired amps hold up. Looking at some SS at the moment  :icon_twisted:. Gryphon anyone ?

Stay in the tube camp. Don't go to the dark side. Check out the Line Magnetic 219IA if you retire the AR amps. Deceptively powerful 24 watt SET. Also keeps 42K of the 50K budget in your pocket.

I'd seriously look at Cor's (ceedee) Kronzilla monoblocks listed in the trading post.
