Anybody make a flatpack sub?
« on: 22 Jan 2014, 03:49 am »
Helping a friend put together a system. Have a really decent pair of monitors that are
clean into the 50s and would like to find a kit for him. Sound will go from tape out on
the receiver so need internal amp with volume and hertz selector so he can match up.
Any help will be appreciated.

These are very reasonably priced CNC cut sub. kits. $60.00+shipping for 1.5 cu. ft. enclosure. :o

Check out Parts Express for respected/inexpensive subs.

For a complete DIY kit, I second Parts Express.

BTW, I don't think using the tape out is a practical approach.
Tape out is constant, does not vary with volume.  So, EVERY time you adjust the volume, you would need to adjust the sub level.  You really want to tap into the pre out which does change with volume.  With this setup, you would only level match once.

Rythmik makes nice servo subs, and they will sell the drivers and amps.  All you need to add is an enclosure.  For music I would go sealed.

Why can't you shop for a sub plate amp with high level input/output?  Some, in some instances, actually prefer this to running separate sub outputs.

(My recommendation was for completed subwoofers from Parts Express.)  Every time this topic comes up the conclusion is that you can't build a cheaper sub for what you can buy a finished one for (that would have some sort of warrantee/return option).  If you really like making sawdust or want to go beyond the ordinary, add Decware to your research list:
