MC Cartridge for Clearaudio Concept ?
« on: 15 Jan 2014, 10:11 pm »
Bent the stylus of my current, by dropping an LP on it  :oops: . The very nice Clearaudio MM.

Thinking about getting a new MC cart that will be future proof since I will be upgrading my TT pretty soon.

Any ideas ?

Thanks.

Hi, Welcome to the monkey house.

I don't think any cart is future proof if you continue to drop LPs on them.  Just kidding, don't be embarrassed, shit happens.
You didn't mention a price range or any type of sound, perhaps referenced to another cart you like?

If I might make a suggestion, replace the stylus in your Clearaudio.  There are DIY instructions on the 95 - Clearaudio  thread that's right next to this at the moment.  Which one do you have?

Even if you want to get a MC it's good to have alternatives and/or something to use while you figure it out.

Thanks for the reply, neobop.

Did not realize that there would be DIY instructions for replacing stylus. Will take a look.

My budget is <600$ for MC. I like transparent yet full-ish sound, with tight bass (not too much to ask for right ? )

Dynavector 20XL2, you can get them on line for around your budget, I have the low output, .3 mv
which you would need about a 60db gain in your preamp, here is the high output;
