Sorry for your loss, Jim. My mom just died on Thursday, so I know what your going thru.

Wayner

I am putting this over here so as not to sidetrack condolences being sent to Jim over at Salk.

Sorry to hear about your mom.  I don't like this age where I am saying good byes to parents all around.

Thank you. I guess I didn't realize that this would start a thread, but it is much appreciated. I do have lots of friends here at AC, and even tho I seem very "Spock" like on the outside, the insides are pretty soft. My mom developed Alzheimer disease right after my father died. I had early suspicions that something was not right when she told me that some neighborhood boys were shooting at the upstairs window with a BB gun. Her house was a rambler. Soon we realized that she could not be left alone anymore, so she was moved from her home to a minimum care facility. Soon after that, the diagnosis was confirmed and then she was moved to a memory care unit. The sad part of the story is that my 66 year old brother had to find someone to take care of his 66 year old wife who is also in Hospice care, suffering from severe Alzheimer  disease (she is at home), and in her last days, so that he could come to the funeral.

Again, thank you all.

Getting old is not for sissies.  Mom passed nearly 9 years ago.  Dad is still with us, but after diabetes and mini-strokes he take insulin, wears disposable briefs, barely remembers me, and can only walk 30 feet.

Over the holidays I had to take him in for a cellulitis (in a very bad place) and 'got' to help inserting a urinary catheter.  Fortunately only one of us remembers it.  So I know it's not easy being the child and/or caregiver.  Sure hope someone takes care of me in 25 years.

:D   Sorry to hear Wayner. Moms and Dads are so sacred. The Sopranos in one show really nailed it good .
Mothers are like a School Bus Driver. They bring you into the world and drive you to school.  One day they do not pick you up anymore. Cut you loose so to speak.
Then later in life we all try to get back on that bus.
               Take care ..

Experiencing a loved one move through the stages of Alzheimer is the hardest part. Remember her from your best times together. That's how I now picture my Mom. They are in a better place now being made aware that their sons know each other. I offer my heart felt condolences.
