Low compliance ?
« on: 13 Jan 2014, 10:50 am »
Hi all Audio Circle members.
Can some one tell me if the Rega Exact mm cartridge
is a low compliance cartridge?
And what makes a cratridge low compliance?
Could not find anything on Rega website.
PDR was extremely generous by giving me (Later on this coming summer) one of his linear tracking arm that will be a direct drop in in my Rega P3 and he mentionned that I need to mate his arm with a low compliance cartridge, that's why I am wondering if my regar Exact meet that criteria.

Thanks.

Rega doesn't publish that spec, but the Exact 2 tracks at 1.75g.  The Rega arms are 11 - 12g eff mass, so I think it's safe to say that the cart is medium compliance.

Compliance is a measure of springiness.  Low compliance is stiffer and tracks heavier.  Maybe you could get more detailed information about the requirements for the arm or using a lighter arm wand.

Hi neo and all Audio Circle members.
Thanks for the information, it help's me,
even if it's not the news I was expecting.
I was looking for a low compliance answer.
Well, I will use my Rega Exact medium compliance with the linear arm
anyway and see what will happen.
I will certainly not buy a new cartridge, with it's re-tipping,
that cartridge up to now is costing me an arm and a leg,
to use a familiar expression.
The linear arm is a gift from an Audio Circle member and as a gift,
I will not change anything.
The combo linear arm and Rega Exact will be better
than the Rega RB-301 arm I am quite sure and if it's not,
well, the linear arm will look way cooler on my set-up.
Anyway, all that will only happen this coming summer.
Summer in USDA not in Vietnam, here it's summer all year round.
Thanks again for the info.
