« on: 11 Jan 2014, 04:38 am »

They look pretty similar.  Is Bryston OEMing the lexicon?

*edit: added jbl synthesis pic as well -- jbl and lexicon are both part of harman

I do not know but the Bryston does look more solid and "high end charming".

Seems to be the prevailing comments on some of the other forums - rebadge. You'd think Lex would have learned a lesson from their previous rebadging PR disasters, but we'll see......

some people just like the name brand Lexicon..so if it's a Bryston in a Lexicon costume who cares....Lexicon's amps were popular because they were made by Bryston. It's not like they are buying SP3's and replacing the covers, Bryston is selling them directly to Lexicon to dress up as they wish. Nothing wrong with that except the price of the Lexicon is much higher. Sony tv's use Samsung LCD panels and are built in Samsung factories.

They've only had one rebadging disaster: the "OppoCon" disk player. And that was just because Harman thought their re-box was worth many multiples over the BDP-83's price. If it had been double the cost of the BDP-83, probably the only people who would've cared are people who get worked up over that sort of thing on the internet but never would be in the market anyway.

If this processor is a "Lexiston," then as long as Harman doesn't think the Lexicon brand somehow adds a couple grand of value vis a vis the Bryston brand, then it's probably a win-win for both companies.

After all, Lexicon today seems to have exactly one in-house (Harman) product: the 8-channel amp. And they learned their lesson from the OppoCon player by pricing it at the basically same point as it's sibling Crown CT8150. Everything else is outsourced. Furthermore, Lexicon's other rebadges, such as the ATI-based amps, seem to be accepted well enough even though they're a fair bit more expensive than their ATI-branded siblings. I don't remember if Lexicon's old Bryston amps were marked up compared to the Bryston originals, though in that case the Lexicon brand subtracted value by cutting the warranty.
