Open Baffle vs Bass Reflex enclosure.
« on: 5 Jan 2014, 03:50 am »
Hi Louis and all Audio Circle members.
I've purchased a pair of Omega 7F that will be on the way to Vietnam,
as soon as someone will come this way, that might take a month or two.
In the mean time, I am curious to know what is the difference in sound between those 7F in open baffle (Dipole) and in a bass reflex enclosure.
I am not interested in the bass section,
because I have some open baffle (Dipole) amplified 12" subwoofer.
(Danny's modified V2)
I am interested in the sound difference in the midrange and hi end
with the two different approaches.
I will be driving those with my Decware 2WPC SET. (SE84C+).
Waiting for some comments from Louis and/or Audio Circle members that have already tried and compared the set up.
Thanks.

You seem very interested in the possibilities with these drivers Guy. I reckon you should try both configurations for yourself. It will also come down to your space and how much room you have behind your speakers as to how the dipole option will work. But an open baffle setup can be fast and cheap to trial so I reckon whilst you have your tools out, give it a try!

Hi Good Times and all Audio Circle members.
Thanks for your post, it's appreciated.
Nice nick name you have.
Yes, it's easy for me to try the dipole option,
I only have to make a round hole with my jigsaw, I did it before.
As for the space behind the dipole, I have plenty: 5 feet+
First I will compare my Audio Nirvana 8" with the Omega 7F,
it might fit in the same cut-out, if not, then I will make an adaptor plate
or a new mounting plate.
I have a full board of MDF gathering dust in the garage.
I might even try to make an bass reflex enclosure
if I kick my butt to get motivated.
First I want to compare the sound between my Audio Nirvana
and then compare the sound between the dipole
and the bass reflex enclosure,
but that might take more time.
Any way, if the Omega is as good or better than the Audio Nirvana,
I will be happy
and keeping myself happy in this boring country (Vietnam)
is very important for me.
Thanks again for posting.

IMO you ought to post the Omega 7F vs. Audio Nirvana 8" review on the Enclosure circle. I think its best not to do this/any comparative review on a manufactures circle.

Or perhaps the Open Baffle circle since that appears to be how you will run them initially.

I will be very interested in your findings Guy, so please so post.

Best,
Ed

Hi rajacat and all Audio Circle members.
My original post was asking Louis for a comparaison between dipole
and bass reflex enclosure.
The comment about Omega 7F vs Audio Nirvana was just to share the content of my project and I know very well that Louis cannot make such comparaison.

I might not be super smart, but I am certainly not that stupid.
(The way I put it, it's supposed to be a joke )

Anyway, I donm't expect Louis to come back with an answer that will satisfy me, because that's not his job to make such comparaison.

Hi Ed and all Audio Circle members.
What I will do, I will stop posting (Unless Louis post some comments)
and wait until I get my Omega 7F, then I will post my comments and finding.
Those are the speakers that I will use to make my comparaison and to hear how the 7F sounds in an dipole arrangement.

See you later aligator...
