Is there any quality difference between using the regular USB connections on the BDP-1 vs. using a NAS HD connected via ethernet CAT5 cable to the router? Does the BDP-1 see/treat the signal any differently or does it only see a file either way? In a perfect world, is one connection better than the other?

The only negative I have heard against using wired streaming through an Ethernet cable as compared to an attached USB drive is the software needed to allow the NAS to communicate with the player may have some influence on the outcome?
