New HT design - help needed
« on: 12 Dec 2013, 11:44 pm »
Hey guys,
I am planning to set up a 5.1 HT in my living room. Unfortunately I have to use only a small corner of the room and I need some advices concerning the setup, especially the sub and surrounds.
For the moment I run 2 polk RTI A7 as front speakers (but I am planning to change this with some bookshelf size speakers soon - due to lack of space they are standing with the TV on a  1.5' tall drawer and it's not ok), polk CSI A4 center chanel and 2 ancient (12 years old) sony speakers as surrounds and NO sub.
I have a Onkyo TX-NR906 receiver. I cannot make any modification to the room layout, all the speakers have to be placed exactly like in the drawing.
The sub/subs can be placed in any of the 3 locations marked on the drawing with SW1, SW2 and SW3.
Central channel can go under the TV, size not important.

The preferred listening position is marked with PLP1.
I'll use the setup for movies 65%, tv programs (discovery, news, sports . . etc) 20% and music 15%.
Please see below a drawing of my living room.

I am interested to get opinions on:
1. Sub: how many, where to place them, what sub - in this moment I am falling in love with the F12G - will it be OK?
2. Surrounds: best option possible in a small size (about 9" x 8" x 6").
3. Front and center channel: any better option in this price range that the Carnegie CSB-1 and CSC1?

For a space that small just one of our servo subs will be fine. And if you want one fully assembled then Rythmik does offer them fully assembled.

For rear surrounds in that application there really is just one choice. Have a look at our A/V-1RS: http://gr-research.com/av-1rs.aspx  They were designed just for that application.

And if you are looking for completed speaker for left, right, and center then the Carnegie Acoustics models that have been marked down are a great choice.
