  HI Marvin,
  I would not rule out a good tube amp. Take a look at something along the lines of the Jolida JD801 or JD1000. Both are well under your $2k budget and with a few slight power supply modifications, will give you much more dynamic control than you may think possible from a tube amp.

the best integrated amp you could get would be my Manley Stingray 50wpc tube intg. that is for sale a few topics down from this one.
$1700 , brand new in the box and shipped.

The BEST integrated amp you can buy under $2000 is my mint Accuphase E-211, $1600.  :mrgreen:

It's still breaking in, but I couldn't be happier with my heavily modified Response Audio Jolida 202a. I'll write a quick review of it sometime next week.
