My first serious amp was a 22 series Marantz (think it was a 65). Long gone but fondly remembered. There seem to be quite a few quality 70's Marantz, Sansui, and Pioneer amps out there for sale - been thinking about purchasing one. Guess I am also nervous about buying something that may look good outside but needs caps replaced (I read most of these caps have about 15-20 year lifespan) or have other ailments and me having no technical skills. Proofing yourself against this means buying one that has been reconditioned which gets quite a bit more expensive and harder to find. So for now I sit on the fence waffling a little every time a post like this comes up.
Just needed to share this. Snagged a mint Marantz 2235 and it appears to be the cleanest, inside and out, I could find. I used to have a 2230 in wooden case, but sold it to a co-worker who needed a phono section/amp for his TT and album collection. Missed it so much, need to get another Vintage Marantz receiver. Any other Marantz lovers out there...Will post pics in a week... (I'm like a kid)
I just got a 2252B from my brother-in-law. He is the original owner. It is in great shape. I has the wooden case too. I opened it up and blew out what little dust was inside. This is a very clean unit. I was thinking of keeping just for the tuner but it is really a waste for me. I would prefer someone else enjoy it. I provide a pic if anyone is interested.I am also sitting on an even older Marantz Model 30 which I need to sell.ThanksJeff
