Wilco sampler?
« on: 5 Aug 2004, 09:38 am »
I've heard so much good stuff about Wilco that I decided to check out their stuff on Amazon.com.  Of course, I get their famous "random 30 seconds of a song."  Based on that, I think Wilco is about as horrible a band as I've heard outside Britney Spears.  Yet based on the reviews, I can't believe that they can really suck as bad as the random clips imply.

Would anyone be willing to make me a CD-R of their favorite tracks from (at least, but not limited too) Yankee and Ghost?  Their older stuff would be welcome, too;  I just can't bear to buy any of their stuff based on the crap Amazon passes off as a meaninful clip.

I'll gladly pony shipping, cost of CD-R, etc.

Thanks.

Dude, just go down to your local used record store, pony up the $7.99 or so and buy one of their albums.  Their most accessible I would say is Summerteeth.

$7.99?  Don't you mean $21.99 (unless used, and then it's $9.99)?

I love Wilco. . .I'll make a random sampler.  I'll try to get it done this weekend.

The only Wilco song I actually have on CD is "Theologians," which I really like.  But some other songs I've sampled on the net sounded bad to me.  Maybe you have to hear Wilco with good quality sound to appreciate it??

If you are going to make a sampler, can you burn me a copy, too?  I can pay you for the expenses or send you a CDR of some vocal, jazz, etc..

You obviously don't get to South Dakota much, Mathew M.     Our used stores aren't exactly brimming with the hip & happening discs.  I could pick up a used Tanya Tucker CD for you, though. :P

Anyway, if by luck there was a used copy of one of their discs, I'd end up with...one of their discs.  I'd have no idea which was their best, etc etc.

They still had a bit of an alt-country sound up until Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

YHF and A Ghost is Born are their 2 newest ones and their 2 greatest ones by far, IMO.

A Ghost is Born would be more approachable than YHF if you were to buy one of them.

If you don't mind throwing together a sampler of all their "good" albums (in your opinion) I'd appreciate it.  Naturally if I like it I'll buy the albums.  It's just that my option is to pay $16-$17 at BB for each one.  :o

I have Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and like it a lot, minus there first cut, but  find myself listening to Being There more often which is odd because I don't like country and Being there is more country sounding you could say.

IMO Summerteeth had some great singles and you could easily create a sampler from it, but Yankee Hotel Foxtrot must be experienced from beginning to end. Its one of those CDs that flows and sampling just doesnt do it justice.

I agree w/ that. . .same w/ the new one. . .

BUT, if someone wants a taste, I'll figure out some good cuts that will flow a bit. . .

Sorry I haven't gotten around to making a sampler. . . .I've been swamped and forgot about it for a bit.  Also, my sister was in town this past weekend.

Anyways, I will try to get to it as soon as I can. . .
