Bryston with Vandersteen...anyone?
« on: 7 Dec 2013, 03:47 pm »
I have a 4bSST2 amp and an Audio Research LS-15 line stage.  I am interested in the Vandersteen Treo speakers.  I have heard the Treos in the dealer showroom, powered by a pair of Parasound mono blocks but have not heard it with the Bryston.  On paper this would seem like a pretty good match.  I realize I eventually need to hear the combination myself but was curious what experiences anyone here might have matching Bryston electronics and Vandersteen speakers...and even more specifically, the 4bSST2 and the Vandersteen Treo.

Thanks
Randy

Hi Randy,

I have not, but you might ask the dealer if he could accommodate your amp into the in store demo on a weekend.  Most hi-end dealers are more than happy to hook up a potential purchasers amp, source, etc. You should also enquire about an in-home demo.

Good luck,
John

I cannot comment on that specific combination, but I had, until very recently, Vandersteen speakers (2Ce) driven by a Bryston amp (4B-ST) and it was a terrific pairing. I used an Audio Research SP-9 Mk.III preamp in the mix (as well as a McIntosh C-30) and really liked the results. Within the limitations of my budget and ambition, it was probably the cleanest and most articulate (in all the right ways) system I've had in here. My listening room is on the small side and I only moved away from that gear to go in the direction of tubes, a recent preference on my part.

I think you might have a nice combo there!

I currently have Bryston 7bsst2's on Magnepans but owned
Vandersteen (various models for almost 20 years)

Vandys love tubes and will reward you richly with the right pairing.....

It is room and material dependent, but if I was in your shoes,
I'd lose the amp and pre and pair the Treos with an Audio Research
VSI60 Integrated.

One of the most impressive combos I've ever heard was this integrated
paired with Treos.  Will fill an average size room with wonderful
music and sounds like 200 watts of juice.......from those great KT120 tubes.

Just as a reference, I used the VSI60 with Vandersteen 2CE signatures
in a room that was 27x17x10 and never felt the least bit deprived in terms
of volume or bass.  Only went the direction of 900 watts of Bryston
when I went to planar magnetics.....
