How's the bass?

( I realize that a stand-mount speaker doesn't do the bottom octave ) so I guess I mean How's the mid bass?

I guess I'm looking for a full-bodied sound- which probably means an 80-160 hz bump (small) and a full midrange.

Am I close?

I think that would depend a lot on your speakers and your room.  I use the CS Integrated in my office system with Focus Audio FS688 speakers.  The 688's are 85db/8ohm and rated flat to 40hz, and at moderate volumes I get decent bass and mid-bass...at loud volumes, I can tell that the 50wpc is straining just a hair with some looseness in the bass (but the mid-bass is fine).  Where I have it set up, the sound is definitely full-bodied and accurate.  If your speakers are more sensitive (87db or more), I suspect you'd be able to go loud and not worry about the strain...

Btw - I don't think that "full-bodied" means a bump in the frequency response...  8)

Phil,

You are correct- a bass bump doesn't equal full bodied- maybe more like a euphonic coloration.

I'm not looking for bass bumps (sorry for the misunderstanding) but I am looking for a full bodied, natural sound with no grain or glare. Now am I close?

WEEZ,

I think you will get a nice full-bodied, natural sound from the CS Integrated.   :D

Best regards,

Phil

KeithR,

It's always hard to say whether something will be a "good match", because a lot of what makes a match good is personal taste.  What do you like and what is important to you?

That said, knowing what I know of the Sophias, here's what I think:  The Sophias (to my ears) are very fast, full-bodied and transparent, but give up something in character; the BC stuff IMHO would give it a sense of romance without sacrificing the Sophia's strengths.  Given the Sophia's impedence characteristics, I'd sugg ...

Phil, thanks for the info.  My BC friend said similar things on the amp-side.  Will see down the road what happens :)

And zybar, yes I still have the 201s in the system!

Thanks to all for the input and comments. From reading the specs, it sounds like the power supply capacitance is what is typically found in amps rated at twice the power. Seems that maybe dynamics would also be pretty good for a 50 watter....

Does anybody know the damping factor?

Thanks again for the responses,

All I know is that it's over 100 with an 8ohm speaker...
