Can someone suggest a good meat/cooking thermometer? I have a fancy digital one from Williams-Sonoma, but it does not work well. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

It doesn't have to be digital. I just want something that is accurate and that will last.

I like the instant read Thermapen, a bit pricey to some but very accurate. From your post I'm not sure if you're looking for an instant read thermometer, or one that you insert throughout cooking.

Why the Thermapen Is Worth It

All it needs is a thumb stud for fast one-hand deployment!

It doesn't get any better than a Thermapen IMOHO.  I have two of them, an older one that I've had for seven or eight years and a newer Splashproof model that I've had for maybe three.  My oldest one ran for over five years on the original battery and in that time never drifted so much as a single degree.  I've tested it any times in an ice bath and boiling water as well as in my calibrated sous vide bath and it's dead on the money (it agrees to the tenth of a degree with the readings of my SV gear, in fact).  In a dense substance like meat or water it reads and stabilizes in about 3 seconds, too.  It's pricey but if it both of mine died or were stolen I'd be on their website to get a new one the same day.

I use an old fashioned thermometer,  but the newer digital ones are all the rage..

This has worked well for me for under $20

I was considering this one as well.

The site bladesmith linked likes the ThermoWorks RT600C as well.

For what it's worth, +1 on Thermapen.  I even bring it when I travel on the odd chance that someone will ask me to cook something.

I also use the Thermapen and the Two-Channel Thermocouple with Alarm for my smoker.   accurate and reliable...

Thanks on the advice for the Thermapen. Just after one use, I can see why it's so highly regarded.

Thermapen is great.  It's too bad it's that expensive.

I've had 3 cheap meat thermometer's over the last 6-7 years and they were mediocre at best. Every time I use what I have now it seems like an eternity to wait for the thermometer to get up to the actual temp of the meat. The thermapen looks like an awesome device, but $$.

LOVE my Thermapen. :inlove:

I have come to rely on mine heavily. I ALWAYS take it to the relatives when I know I'm going to cook on a strange grill (gas  :shake:)(hope I don't offend anybody - strictly charcoal at home)

Buy it!  You won't be disappointed. :thumb:  A few guys at work used to make fun of me for buying a $100 thermometer but every time they need to temp something they run to me to borrow it.
