Is it possible to take an old XP computer and optimize it somewhat to serve as a dedicated music server. Imagine there are threads on people who have done this - just not finding them. Have seen lots of new builds but just hate recycling computers that are only 8 years old and seems to have lots of capacity (such as two hard drives).
Yea, took the unit out of the box after years, wouldn't boot up, fixed the problems then struggled with installing asio in Winamp till I found instructions on an Asian website...but it works. Thanks. I can't afford any other software right now. This was just a test anyways since this one only has 128gb HD. Sounds good enough for now.
Agree it's a shame to toss serviceable hardware. Seems people are pretty focused on the windows software. Couldn't theoretically you run an audio optimized version of Linux on it as well? And then use a Linux version of media player software.
