For professional gear I look first to Sound-on-Sound for reviews.  Paul White is quite knowledgable:

http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jul13/articles/fostex-pm841.htm

Summary:  about what you would expect, nothing horrible or spectacular.  Keep in mind that this monitor (like nearly all intended for studio work) will probably produce a dry, highly resolving sound to reveal the warts versus home enjoyment.

Close to this price range a few studio monitors work well in-room (versus console or desktop) and for enjoyment (Adam and Emotiva come to mind).  And a few are designed for home use (such as AVi 9RSS, KEF X300, or Quad 9AS).

Yes, these are true studio monitors and are intended more for someone who is recording music, rather than listening for personal enjoyment.  But some people love them.

I just picked up a pair of these from clearance sale (GC online) for around $250 - unbelievable price point.  Set them up last night.  I'll start working with the monitors this evening tonight in the studio and ultimately, send a follow-up post after I've had an opportunity to work with them over a few sessions.  BTW, is this the same "Dan Driscoll" I used to work with back in East Meadow, NY at Lufthansa???  I'm thinking it just might be...  If it is, let me know! Very long time, indeed! - Chris Jansen (Boise, ID)

I'm afraid not. I've never lived or worked on the East Coast.
