Empirical Audio is pleased to offer mods for this benchmark DAC of 10 years ago. The design of this DAC is fundamentally good, it just needs updating to the latest components and digital techniques. The mods consist of:
1) All analog section rectifiers are replaced with Harris FREDs
2) Black Gate caps are added to analog section
3) Caps in digital section upgraded to reduce dispersion and jitter
4) Pulse transformers added to inputs 1 and 2
5) HF decoupling improved for analog section
6) DAC filter caps improved to minimize sibilance
7) Digital RCA inputs isolated from DAC ground
Dynamics, focus and imaging are improved significantly. It is truly a "toe-tapping" DAC after mods.
