Any Sensational Alex Harvey fans???

Alex Harvey was part of the soundtrack for my formative years: the local radio station played "Gang Bang" for its novelty/shock value, "Faith Healer" and several others.  I pulled out the CD "Live on the Test"  (from a BBC appearance) this past week and was surprised how well it holds up--his take on Jacques Brel's "Next" is brilliant.

I'm not into nostalgia (I can't imagine listening to Alice Cooper,  only listened to the anniversary re-issue of "Dark Side of the Moon" once, generally hate classic rock radio) so I don't think Alex's appeal can be attributed to that factor.

Unfortunately, his CD's seem to be only imports, so they're somewhat expensive; fortunately, they've combined previous releases into Two-fers.

I have to admit that I never thought anyone would remember or mention alex harvey. He was one of a kind and at once to insane and esoteric and sophisticated for most people to "get".His guitarist who dressed in those striped tights was quite talented as was alex himself.I believe he became a rocker in his forties after many years as a grave digger/ditch digger in london.Coitus interruptus to one and all!

Faith Healer was a staple on our FM album-oriented station in Cleveland.  I saw the SAHB at the Akron Civic Theatre...a great show.   8)

Ted,
small world--that's undoubtedly the same radio station that I mentioned in the initial post. Didn''t see Alex at the Civic, but know it was  a great venue.
I've listened to "Next" several times since making the first post and haven't really tired of it at all.  BTW, every time I hear "Faith Healer", I think of Ernest Angley and the Grace Cathedral in Akron---"Come and  get your Miracle!!"

Rex Humbardt, too.  I'm gonna have to either dust off my vinyl or go get an Alex Harvey cd.  I miss those great tunes.

I remember some of the sessions he did for "The Old Grey Whistle Test" in the Bob Harris days.  These were wonderfully insane sessions but the music was absolutely storming, including an unmissable Delilah.
