I am looking forward to getting a new pair of MLS BCSE RM40's in the near future.

In listening to my rig a bit today, I began fanatsizing about a system that while within reach, would certainly be a big, big step.

Here is what I was thinking.

1) MLS BCSE RM40s
These will be driven on top with the Son of Ampzilla 130 wpc on top(arriving soon) and 300wpc CineNova for the woofers

2) Two Pair of stacked LARGER Subs
These will be powered by 4 600wpc (@ 4 ohms) CineNova channels

This will mean I'll have 2 Three Channel Cinenovas and 1 Two Channel SOA power amps.

Lunacy? :o  :o

Well I was considering 3 pair of LARGERs stacked on top of each other  , but will try 2 pair first.

Most recent research shows that woofers at "ear level" produce the best sound.  Beleive it or not, I'm not looking for SPL's, but clean, detailed, 3-D bass.  I already have the best I have ever heard.  I think this would move it off the map.

RM40s will be run "full range", and subs will be rolled in as needed.  Likely in the 40-50 Hz range.

LARGERS will be physically attached by strapping them in the rear, and each bank will have over 100# of weight sitting on top to add mass and power.

Don't know how soon I'll be able to place this plan in action, but stage one "Dual Largers" will be here in less than 30 days.

Hopefully BCSE Rm40's will be here too.

I'm just wondering what 6 LARGERS "stacked" 3 on each side will look, sound and "FEEL" like???

Audiophile Daydreams... Gotta Lov'em

6 largers.. man, can you imagine all that power you'll be drawing, your neighbors lights will dim, they'll feel the rumble and tumble.  they'll duck in fear of the "big one" LA earthquake.   Do this too often and you might feel... evicted

6 LARGERS "stacked"

I want some of what you've been smoking  :smoke:

What you should do is talk Big B into making a dedicated subwoofer tower system, with multiple 12" woofers per side loading the room at varying heights from the ground.  Kind of like the SuperTower III/SRE without the midrange array and tweeter, but built with a nice box with internal bracing from Dorne or M.L.S.

Maybe make an active version with something like this built in

Alpine MRD-M1001

It's designed for mobile audio of course, but just drive it through a high quality 12v DC power supply.

With that much bass if you were to play at reference levels a movie track's LFE, say Star Wars clone war scene I think you'd crack your foundation not to mention other irrepairable damage.

classic case of more money than brains

ive been designing a new cabinet for my large sub in my head for some time now, its will be made to fit in the corner(triangle look from the top) with the pr still at the bottom ,drivers will be located in the middle .with the extra height added to keep the volume the same as old cabinet the drivers would be about ear level.  it  would have to be mounted to the wall so it wont tip over.

its the only way i can think of to open little floor space and not give up the solid bass sound

hmmm we must be smoking the same stuff

Be careful altering the dimensions of the slot that the PR is loaded to. I'm still convinced that the dimensions of the slot have a lot to do with how the slot-loaded PR operates. In particular, it has someting to do with how the Larger sub can use a 12" and a 15" loaded to just a single 15" PR and not be underported. Make sure that the volume of air under the slot is the same, and that the area of the slot opening is the same.

Well remember this is a fantasy, but fueld by looking at what is out there for "musical" subs.  Not interested in "down firing" blast boxes,  :nono: plus you can't stack them easily, and I find room interaction is more difficult.

I'm not looking for huge excursion since I want musical speed and accuracy, as well as low distortion.

The Wilson XS (two 18") is around $18K, the Krell (single 15") is $4750

and 6 Largers (6 12" and 6 15" with 6 15" Passive Radiators) are around $5400. (Well I actually get a better deal than that  )

Not looking for large x-mass and body numbing SPLs, but huge delicacy and weight.  There is a foundational "air" that HUGE subs can bring to music, even at low SPLs (actually particulalrly at low levels) that takes you there.

Stage one, dual LARGER subs will be in place in a few weeks.

Stage two of two stacked pairs may not be far behind.

Stage three of three stacked pairs may or may not happen, depending on stage two's performance.

I think it was Jack Nicholson who said (in As Good as it Gets) "Go sell CRAZY some place else.  We're all full up here"

i agree that the slot size may be important, but i know that the dimensions can be changed (mebbe the4 size as well?) - consider the original larger subwoofer iteration (a size/shape i actually prefer to the later iteration.):

perhaps what is needed is help from brian cheney for custom-sized enclosure slots...

i am going to keep the cubic feet the same on the new design as my large for bolth drivers and the pr. this raises the drivers to ear level with the  pr slot so big
