Where to buy CD/LP on line ?
« on: 27 Oct 2013, 01:44 pm »
Hi all Audio Circle members.
Can anyone recommend a good place to buy CD/LP on line.
I am looking for Adele, classic, acoustic guitar and electric guitar
(The Ventures style) harpe, electronic, classical, Japanese style big drums...
No big orchestra, small ensemble sound better on my system.
No jazz, rap, (Heavy metal) rock.
Thanks.

I have purchased a ridiculous quantity of CDs and quite a few vinyl albums from Amazon.   And if there is a problem, they will take it back.  I have also purchased many used CDs from their vendors, with good results.  Only 1 used vinyl, so far, but it was in good as new condition.

Import CDs is ok, but slow on shipment, unless they are one of Amazon's vendors.  Then they get the stuff right out.

POPMarket (Sony) has some attractive packages.  But when you get a defective, you will find out how much good customer service is worth.  And POPMarket has no HONEST customer service, in my experience.   :duh:

Secondspin.com sells music, movies, and games.
They also buy your old unwanted discs as well.

Amazon gets a big thumbs up from me. New and used LP or CDs, from Amazon or Amazon Marketplace sellers.
The big plus is Amazon will refund if the seller messes up, without any big delay.
The one problem I find with Amazon for new LP is they tend to overprice new LPs. You have to know the retail price for any particular LP... or the Amazon price listed may be overcharging you.. (and sometimes by a lot of money.) ((I have no idea why they would be so stupid to do this other than they get away with it?))

Hi Bob in St.Louis, Elizabeth, decal, toocool14, yeldarb and all Audio Circle members.
Thanks all for your suggestions, it’s appreciated.
Since I had already set up an account with Amazon to buy a walwart for my Bellari phono stage and a vinyl washing machine,
I decided to give them a try for CDs and LPs.
They do have a great choice, their prices are good, on the items I bought anyway, as for the delivery, and I am not in a hurry, therefore not important.
All the purchased items will be delivered to my wife’s nephew in Seattle and then given to relatives and friends coming this way, Vietnam that is.
I bought two vinyls from Adele (19-21) with a CD also from her, I want to do a sound quality comparison between the vinyl and the CD, and I also bought a CD from Chesky (Demo) and a CD from Animusic 2.
And that should be my vinyl/CD purchase for this year.
By the way, I am a little reluctant to buy used CD/vinyl on line, since returning any items is way too expensive.
I was never a used stuff buyer anyway and look as if the gap in price between new and used is not that much.
Again thanks for your suggestions.

A few other good sources for new LPs. I have had good luck with all of them.

http://store.acousticsounds.com/

http://www.elusivedisc.com/

http://www.soundstagedirect.com/

All of these sites tend to run 10% off specials on a regular basis so I usually wait until the sales to order.

I like soundstage and musicdirect for LPs...
good fast service and kind people...but like the others, the prices are competitive and 45s are $50!

Hi Sonny and all Audio Circle members.
I just went on musicdirect web site and no sample/demo to hear before you buy.
Most of the vinyl from Amazon have samples that you can listen to to give you an idea of the song/music,
that way you won't be unpleasantly surprised and you won't waste your money.
Thanks anyway for the suggestion.

Hi Gzerro and all Audio Circle members.
I did a quick browse of all the names you have listed
and none of them offer samples.
Therefore, unfortunately it's a no no for me.
I don't buy, if I cannot listen before I buy.
Sorry and thanks anyway, it's still appreciated.
However, I will keep the names in my favorites, in case.

Listen on Amazon and then buy from the best price seller if they have a good return policy.

They may have nothing you like, but go to Mapleshaderecords.com.  Very well recorded, limited catalog.  Blues Rider is some good stuff.  There is at least one flamenco guitar cd.

Hi WireNut and all Audio Circle members.
Which library are you talking about?
The Vietnamese library ???
They are useless as a pait of tits on a leghorn !
Did you forgot that I live in Vietnam.
Thanks anyway for the suggestion.
If the result is not there,
the intention is still there and that's what counts.

Hi JackD and all Audio Circle members.
Best prices O.K. but return policy means nothing from where I am
and that's Vietnam.
I found that for what I bought,
the price where competitive from my research on other sites
suggested by some Audio Circle members.
Thanks anyway for the advice.

Stop mentioning the library !
Are you talking about the public library where you can borrow books.
If that's what you are talking about,
I don't know what the Vietnamese libraries could do for me.
Can you elaborate on that?
I don't get it.
Did you forgot that my IQ is way below 140.
Thanks.

Hi yeldarb and all Audio Circle members.
I know already the Mapleshaderecords website and sorry to say that
there's nothing there of interest to me.
I had more in mind The Venture style guitar or classic acoustic guitar.
Thanks any way.
