LS-C build question
« on: 25 Oct 2013, 01:34 am »
I am building the enclosure for the LS-C. I am wondering how you are supposed to assemble it.  Do you complete the enclosure - including veneer and varnish - before putting in the crossover and wiring the speakers? If so, does the crossover fit through the ribbon speaker hole?

Or do you assemble all but the back (or side), install the crossover and wires, add the back, veneer, varnish, and then install speakers?

Thanks

I'm not very woodworking savvy, but my friend is, so he is helping me.  So far all we have is the main pieces cut, so it should not take too long from here.

You can completely assemble the cabinet and install the crossover through one of the holes cut for an inside woofer.

Great.

Assuming success in building the box to the wife's standards (i.e. fine furniture veneer finish), I will be ordering the kit soon.

Thanks Danny

if you were closer to nyc, i would offer you my kit for half price and give you the box i had fallenenclosures build me free with the kit, ready to paint, not sure if its easy to veneer rounded corners though.

I guess I don't have enough posts to pm but I was reading this thread and saw that ufokillers was considering selling a ls-c kit and enclosure. I might be interested.  I live in NC but might be able to drive to meet up

You'll be able to PM after a few more posts.

I contacted him but he did not want to ship it.  I offered to drive 2/3s the way - I wanted to avoid NYC - but I got no response to my offer.  So I ordered the kit from Danny.

I would give him a try after you can PM.

I'm in the middle of my build of the LS-C to go with my LS-6s (cherry veneer goes on tomorrow).  It will replace a very good N3S that I bought used (from an AC member that also bought it used).

I just finished watching "Another Day, Another Time: Celebrating the Music of Inside Llewyn Davis" on Showtime.  This is an all acoustic concert featuring songs from the upcoming movie from the Coen brothers.

OMG that N3S is spectacular.  Crystal clear vocals and instruments.  It's amazing.  I walked up to each speaker - and with that mix - most of the sound was coming from the center.  I don't see how the LS-C can top it - but I will find out soon enough.

Another great soundtrack produced by T-Bone Burnette (O Brother Where Art Thou). I liked the making of documentary as much as the film of the live show. The singers are recorded well enough that it ought to be a great test disc for loudspeakers.

I'm nearly finished with my LS-C build.  I assembled everything from 1AM to 8AM this morning.

There are a lot of wires to solder and I won't be surprised if I have a mistake.  Now I have to wait for my wife to get home so she can help me move it upstairs.

rak313,

Very nice build.  That is one big center channel speaker.

I can't take credit.  My friend did all of the hard work. He had never done veneer before - so I'm quite happy.

I fired it up and did an A/B with my NS3 (with no other speakers playing).  I had to change the surround center processor to "Large" to hear a difference.  Then the LSC had deeper bass.

Its a bit early to make definitive statements but I'm please.

Here is it in the room, (there is a pull down movie screen).  Don't make jokes about my surround sound processor/amp.   Its very old, but I can't figure out what to replace it with.  I'm also hoping to replace the PB13ultra subwoofer with some form of Rythmic servo sub.
