World Series Time!
« on: 24 Oct 2013, 12:31 am »
Well, it's started...Game 1 of the 2013 World Series :thumb:

I really want to hand Boston their collective hats (I'll be nice), especially after the last time both teams met in the fall. I happened to be in Bean Town at a bar when they handed us ours. It wasn't any fun. The group of us from St Louis were the butt of plenty of jokes. That's OK though. The folks up there were plenty friendly about it. It was all in good fun...but a damned embarrassing showing by the Cards.

This makes our 4th post season appearance in 10 years and (hopefully) make it our 12th Series win. Not bad for a flyover state with a total payroll half that of the top paying teams (yes, that was a direct poke in the eye).

Sooooo.........

GO CARDS!!!!!               GO CARDS!!!!             GO CARDS!!!!

3-0 Boston. Top of the second. After that Wainright play, you don't deserve a WS title. :duh:

That's OK.  At this rate you may never see another Yankees championship in your lifetime.

As feckless as the Cards were in the field last night, this could explain their lack of hitting.

Looks like Lester juiced the ball. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/cardinals-pitching-prospect-suggests-boston-jon-lester-threw-134202958--mlb.html

Highly unlikely.

But if the Cards play anymore like they did last night, I will have to experience another Red Sox victory!

You got that right. They stunk the place up last night. Well, everybody is entitled to one of those games on occasion. Hopefully that was our last this series...and then we stomp the crap out of the bearded wonders    I mean, come on, who do they think they are? ZZ Top? Duck Dynasty?

It's certainly in character for New England teams these days, with the cheater in chief at the head of the Patriots.

Maybe the Red Sox are just trying to one-up their football brethren.

You Cardinals fans have a lot riding on Michael Wacha tonight. If he bombs or gets the run support exhibited last night, this could be a short series.

OTOH, St.Louis looks like the overall safer bet to me. They should have an advantage at home because having no DH effectively benches either Ortiz or Napoli. They can't both play first base and Napoli hasn't been behind the plate all year. So, if the Cards can take one game in Boston, they have a good chance of taking the series. If they lose one in St. Louis, they are doomed.

That's the plan. Wacha's the Cards best pitcher right now. If he can shut them down and the Cards can get some hitting tonight, we'll be OK. After that, it's a game at a time.

Last night was ugly but chalk it up to rookie jitters. They'll come back just like they did against Pittsburgh and Cinncinati.

You're right. We need the win tonight. If we loose one at home it will make it really tough winning in Boston but it can be done. Like Steve said, a good pitching outing and some run production and we can send a hush across Bean Town.

A quick look back 20 years and the "atvantage" does not hold up. I think it is of equal disadvantage when a NL team plans in the AL. They do not always have a serviceable DH.

I'll take Craig at DH.  He's at least 'serviceable'.

Cards O has been not and cold all year.  They could win a 1-0 or put up double digits - hard to say.  Regardless, if we win tonight, it's a 5 game series and we have home field.

You can bet the Sox won't get off so easy against Wainwright twice in the series.

Craig will get his hits, not bad swings for being off 7 weeks.  It'll come.

Kelly vs Peavy on Saturday - I like our chances there.

Cards site shows TBD for the starter on Sunday.  Tells me Matheny is rethinking Lance Lynn the way he's been pitching the last few games. Maybe Shelby?

Add in either Papi or Napoli sitting on the bench.  Go from those 2 to sitting Papi?  Better defense and good offense. Bench Napoli - power certainly at the plate and always a threat with Papi but not as good on defense. Then add in pitchers who haven't swung a bat all year other than the few interleague games and it certainly does change the dynamics.  Granted, we either lose Craig or Adams - unless Matheny has the guts to put Craig at 3rd and bench Freese.  Been a while since he's played 3rd though.

Should be a fun 3 games.
