Ok, my house is almost done and I need some room treatment advice. I will be running a 7.1 setup.

The room has been treated for soundproofing but no acoustical treatment as of yet.



Attached is a pic of my room.

The speakers are marked in red
The subwoofer is marked in green
I have two rows of seating marked in blue
The screen is centered on the left wall.

Are those alcoves built into the full walls, or are they cut outs for windows upper in the room?
How tall are the ceilings?
Carpet or wood flooring?
You'll definitely want to start with treatment for reflection points. Back wall might be hard to do considering the alcoves and such. Also, I imagine the surrounds in the rear will have a hard time not sounding very directional since you're relatively close in proximity and they won't be enveloping too much into the extra volume you have in the back, so you might want to consider diffusion in the back of the room to help open up the sound stage back there a bit.

The middle alcove is not there, it was filled in so only the left and right alcove is present and they both have windows set in about 5 feet.

Ceiling height is 9 feet.

Carpeted flooring.

I have two sets of bookshelves for surrounds. One will be on the back wall, the other will be height speakers above the 2 front mains.

Would you recommend bipolar speakers on the back wall?

Bipolars could really help with your proximity to the back wall, particularly for the back row of seats. That is a definite option. Diffusion will help a lot, too, though.

I was leaning towards:

3 Monster Bass traps with scatter plates on the back wall
2 Tri Trap corner bass traps for the front corners
3 242 Acoustic panels for behind the front, left, and center speakers
4 242 Acoustic Panels for the side wall that doesnt have doors
2 242 Acoustic Panels for the ceiling

Think this would do it?

Not sure how we missed this - sorry.  Just been swamped - guess that's a good thing.

Maybe swap the 242's on the side walls for 244's. Skip the 242's on the ceiling.  The rest looks good.
