  • Please don't let Rick Rubin anywhere near the mixing board
  • Please don't let Bob Rock anywhere near the recording studio, and to be safe, the city where you are recording
  • Bring in Flemming Rasmussen again, as producer
  • Keep your own hands off the compressor in pro-tools

Once the new album is out, let someone with ears go back and remix/remaster Death Magnetic - I think there is a great album there waiting to be let out. :drums:  :guitar:
If that proves successful, then consider remixing And Justice For All to include some bass in the mix, with an official re-issue.  Great album anyway, but might be improved.

This is written not to criticize, but hopefully to elicit a much better recording this time around, and as someone who has purchased every Metallica recording, most in multiple formats (LP, cassette, CD, DVD, re-issued LPs@45rpm, etc)

I like Metallica better when  James Hetfield is angry and Drunk,His songs have more emotion ,Now that he sober he kinda mellow and have no feeling or contents.I guess new Metallica better then no Metallica. :thumb:

  • Music a bubble, not looking for trouble.
At this point if you could hear the bass it just wouldn't be Metallica.

And they will definitely work with Rubin or Rock next just to piss you off. So maybe do a Rick Rubin is perfect for MEtallica thread instead.

Hmmm....good idea.   Maybe they can co-produce. :o   :duh:

Did a bit of searching and found a mix on a couple of Justice songs that had the bass added back in.  Need to do some listening to those.
James also had some vocal damage a while back that is limiting him.   Plus he's pretty well-off financially - that may be limiting his anger too.

Isn't he the dude who ruined And Justice for All?  I refuse to buy that album until they remix/re-record that one![/list]

Sadly I think it is time to let Metallica go as they are not longer the Metallica we grew to love. :bawl:

Lars and James wanted the mix changed to hide the bass, as a hazing to Jason Newsted.

I like the sound of Justice, and Flemming also produced Ride and Master, so I am all for him to produce.  Doubt it will happen, but gotta dream.

I like the old metallica better, although I thought death magnetic was damn good but shitty recording (I can get past that unlike Load/Reload).  While I really like well done recordings, I'd rather good talent first and good sound second.

    Brad

I'm with you on Load/Reload.  The power and rawness of the original Garage Days is terrific.  Breadfan, which was a B side to a Justice single, is one of my fave Metallica songs, despite being a cover.  For me, the unnecessary compression on Death Magnetic kept me from listening through to the core of the music.  I was able to get past it with St. Anger (was going through a divorce at the time so plenty of anger )

    I'd order their albums:

    Justice
    Master
    Kill 'em All
    Ride
    Garage Inc/Revisited
    Black Album
    Death Magnetic
    St. Anger
    Load
    S&M
    ReLoad

    Lulu doesn't make the list.

I still have strong hopes for more good Metallica records.   Look what Anthrax did with Worship Music in 2011.  Probably their 2nd best album, right behind Among the Living.
AND Worship Music is well recorded/mixed/mastered. 8)

Agreed...I didn't happen to remember it.

My favorite in order might be slightly reordered, but not a lot.   Ride might be further up but the theme would be respected.

I can't say I ever listened to St. Anger, I kinda wrote of Metallica with Load and didn't really listen again till Death Magnetic.  Partly because I thought Lars was being a twat on his issue with the community not paying him enough.

When I saw the thread title and clicked it, that's exactly what I was thinking.  My request is to just disappear.  Every crappy album they put out these days takes a little away, and make me enjoy less such masterworks as Kill 'em All and Master of Puppets.  Their edge is gone, and instead of simply having it and it flowing naturally through their work, they try and manufacture it and it sounds just that ... manufactured.

Wow, had never even heard of it. Still love' em though, have all the other albums. Made me a pariah in college.
Remember St Anger being so abysmal SQ wise that I recorded the DVD soundtrack to CD to make it more listenable.
    New album eh?

    cheers,

Breadfan brings it back to the core of which I like Metallica.
