Kind of funny how Harry was recently criticizing another vendor for not using materials that justified the price tag.  I think that's why he is sticking to his nuclear submarine turntable motor story.

I was joking about the nuclear submarine and that story.  The real sub story could be true.  It's supposed to be a super quiet electric motor used for sonar or something.  The guts of the motor might be the same or similar, but I doubt if the sub motor is turning a platter at 33 or 45 RPM.  Thin Gap is the company that makes the Mil spec motor and the CD motor might cost $4K.

I suspect the circuit board stator is not as good speed control as many vintage direct drives have, but we don't have enough information.

I started this thread before the Classic Direct was released because I like direct drive tables and VPI is a major player.  For years there have been precious few being made.   As you go up in price, the differences between drive types seems to diminish.  In this price range there are a surprising number of tables today and I don't think anyone, including reviewers, can sort them out for you.  Eventually, we'll have a better idea of its reliability, user friendliness, and relative quality.  I plan to audition one, but I'm not sure when.  Most dealers probably don't have one on display yet.
Have a great weekend,
