Remembering the "reel" days.? How many members had one of these great tape players?

. This was my baby in 1973.

I always wanted one but never took the plunge. Been eyeballing them lately on CL.

I believe I owned this model while aboard the USS Midway (Japan) around 1977.  Enjoyed the heck of it but alas sold it.  Very tough to be mobile in the military (especially overseas) with stuff like this over you back.  Teac was huge back then along with Marantz, Kenwood and Pioneer.

Yes they all made great machines. I like just looking at them :thumb:

I usually listen in the dark, but if I had one of these I'd have to turn the lights on just to watch the reels turn

Still do. Akai Quad Reel2Reel.
Pulled it out a couple of years
ago and it still works.
Probably needs some caps
changed out.
And I forgot, it's 30 years old now,
but I also have a Fostex A8 that
did a session or two.
There are times I still wish I tracked
to tape!

I have some:

Revox A77 x 2
Pioneer RT707 x 2 (just took a pass on another).
Akai G77 x 2
2 or 3 Teacs, maybe a Sony.

Have branded metal reels for each.

Hi all Audio Circle members.
Unfortunately, I don't own any R to R deck today,
but here's what I had many, many years ago.
Why did I got rid of it ? ? ?
Stupid me !

Hi decal and all Audio Circle members.
What a beautiful machine,
no wonder you regret selling it, I would also.

Guy 13

We do we do things that we later regret,
I don't understand why we do things like that...
My only consolation, is that I am not the only one like that.

Yes, that's for sure. I love my present system but it would be great to have a collection of those beautiful tape machines. : I sold my Sony to help get money for a  house downpayment :shake:

A well crafted reel-to-reel or turntable always seems to become the focal point of an audio system - perhaps it is simply anthropomorphism.

Be well...

Thanks for teaching me a new word..... Anthropomorphism. I like this word. When I look at my speakers they are always looking right back at me. Every time.

Nice looking machines fellas. I have an old AKAI r2r,  but it doesn't have quite the cool factor as that Dokorder and black Sony pictured above. Still, it is magical when the reels spin. Hypnotic.

Oh yeah, and a big Happy Birthday to James!  :birthday:
