This is my pair of Selah Audio SSRs- a 2 way with superb drivers (7" Scanspeak Revelator woofer and Fountek ribbon tweeter) often found in very expensive speakers, artfully blended by Rick Craig. Until recently this was Selah's top selling model (now the Tempesta, I believe). This pair features upgraded crossovers with ClarityCap SA caps and Alphacore flat ribbon inductors. This xover has a $200 upcharge over the base kit. Internally, the crossover feed and woofer wires are Alphacore ribbon cables, while the tweeters are wired with solid core long grain UHP copper. The are 16h x 9w x 15d.
These are the sealed version; bass is solid and flat to around 50 hz. and rolls off smoothly from there. I have damped the system to provide the flattest midbass, for good integration with a subwoofer.
The cabinets are a DIY build (not mine) that are very well made, with good attention to detail- 3/4" baltic birch plywood, two horizontal internal braces and effective cabinet wall damping. Drivers are recessed, woofer holes are filleted on the inside surface. They have solid hardwood edge inserts and bubinga wood veneer. They weigh a solid 25 lbs. ea.
The mechanical craftsmanship of the boxes is very good (the edge and corner joinery is very nice), but the stain colors and final sanding and finishing are not up to commercial standards. They do look appealing overall, in a funky way, as they are. A sanding and proper refinishing job could make these real lookers.
The speakers have no dings or dents, and the drivers work perfectly.
I have had these for a couple of years in my office system, and have compared them directly to at least a half dozen well known and highly regarded $2-4k standmounts (names provided on request). The SSRs won every matchup until the price range went well over $3k.
They have a very detailed, extended and airy upper range, coupled with a smooth lower range that has excellent midrange body and balance. Overall very musical and convincing. This is a mature design, not a "stepping stone" speaker. I suspect many music lovers may find these as good a speaker as they will want.
Why am I selling them? To try another, more expensive of Selah Audio's creations better sized to my small office.
Factory built, with this crossover, they would be ~$1900, and the kit alone is ~$1000. These prices make this model a best buy, IMO, but buy mine for $775 shipped to the cont. US and I predict you'll be delighted.
Thanks for having a look!
