HELP! NEED TO HEAR RM40 IN PHOENIX AREA!!!
« on: 29 Jul 2004, 02:06 pm »
Hello, I'm new to Audio Circle but have been around for awhile on Agon under same user name where my system can be viewed(pics).  I've been trying to upgrade from my nine year old Stratus Gold's now for some month's but coming up empty.  Have done several in home demo's now with PSB Platinum T8's, Tannoy TD12's, Legacy Focus 20/20 and MacIntosh LS360's and didn't care for any of them.  I recently read a thread on Agon re: VR-4III SE vs. RM40 and that's what lead me here.  I'm very interested in the RM40, but alas, no dealers in Phoenix area.  Brian Cheney suggested a post on AC.
This is a decision I don't take lightly and don't want to be buying/selling/losing money.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Mr perfectionist,

Although I am in no position to assist you in your quest to hear these speakers (unless you fly to Central Florida), I wish you the best of luck.  RM40s fit into my system very nicely.

More importantly,
                              Welcome to Audio Circles!!!!

Does San Diego qualify as Phoenix area? You can hear my RM40s.

Isn't there someone who has the RM-Xs in the Scottsdale area?  The RM40s will be similar, but the RM-Xs are better designed.

Not sure if any of the CA locals are close enough but here is an audition list.

Perfectionist,

You are more than welcome to come listen to the RM-X at my house in NE Scottsdale (just south of Shea Blvd at 130th St, near the Mayo Clinic).

I upgraded to the RM-X from the RM-40 late last year.  The RM-X is better in every way than the RM-40, as it should be given the substantially higher price, but there is certainly a close family resemblence.

My room is well treated (fiberglass panels on the front wall and front half of the side walls, quarter round bass traps in each corner, heavy drapery fabric over all walls) and my front end, amplification, and cables are up to task.  The speakers have all the options, including TRT crossover caps, lambswool stuffing behind the midrange array, and vitrified high compliance passive radiators.  So, you should be able to hear VMPS at its best.  The only thing I still need to do is get Big B out here to fine tune things...

I'd like to thank Ekovalsky for inviting me into his home to hear the RM/X.
He is a true gentleman.
