N3S vs. MTM of OB-5
« on: 24 Sep 2013, 12:59 am »
The MTM section of the OB-5 uses the same drivers as does the N3S. Has anyone heard the OB-5 and N3S side by side? If a listener could mentally tune-out the bass from the extra woofers of the OB-5, would a comparison of the two produce just what one would expect---the OB-5's MTM, from being boxless, sounds more open than the N3S, and everything else (tonal balance, transparency, imaging, etc.) is very similar?

In an open baffle those drivers start rolling off and don't have much bass output. So minus the lower woofers of the OB-5 would make them sound pretty thin.

Tonality and balance would be very close from 200Hz and up or so, but the open baffle design really has them in transparency especially in the mid-range. It is a clean and more effortless sound.

So if that is what you are expecting, then yes.  :D

Great, thanks Danny. No reason then to not move on the speaker idea we discussed last week.
