Dueland CAST
« on: 18 Sep 2013, 01:28 am »
Hello so thinking about upgrading the crossover to Dueland CAST. Does anyone have exprience with this Cap? I have heard nothing but great things about them but have also heard the upgrade of Caps in general  dosent neccesarrilly mean you will get better sound. It can actually work the other way and make sound worse.

Few questions.

1. Will this Cap change the sonic signature sound of the speaker as originally intended by the designer? Or is this just a complimentary cap upgrade that just enhances the sonic nature of the speaker?

2. Does anyone have any negative thigs to say about them?

I am new to Caps and all comments are appreciated. Thanks.

They are the best caps available, period.  Also the most expensive caps available, period.

What they do is remove that last bit of hash from the reproduction that you didn't even know was there.  The background becomes darker, details are more delineated in space, and everything just sound more present in the room with you.

Thanks Ryan. I was thinking about getting this Crossover upgrade with the Cirrus I ordered. If you would, please E-mail me the price for the upgrade. Much appreciated, thanks.

In about 2 months there might be a better cap than the Dueland cast copper.  And they will be less expensive.  Jupiter Condenser is going to release a copper foil and wax paper cap done with a couple of new things they have never done before.  So far, the prototypes have bettered the Dueland cast copper.  The few that have tried it versus the Dueland say they are hearing things they never heard before.  I personally would not want to invest in Dueland knowing there might be a better cheaper cap coming soon.  I say might because a few people raving about something somewhere does not make for truth.  We will have to wait for production and see how they fair.  I bet Ryan can get some prototypes to try.......but production is a couple of months off.

Ric,

This is good info. I just checked out their site but know info posted so far. I'll be keeping my eyes open for them in the future.

Thanks

Hmm, interesting.  However, having tried both the original and HT Jupiter caps, while great caps, it's difficult to believe that paper wax personality can be refined enough to be a SOTA, world-beater cap.  We shall see..

Funny you mention that... I had a quad of the Jupiter Copper Flat (prototypes) in my tube amps and now have the Duelund Cast Copper. They are very close, and for the money, the Copper Jupiter is the one to pick IMO. However, there is one thing the Duelund does better though, and that is delineation. It catches everything and separates artists slightly better than the Jupiter.

However, again, the Jupiter Copper is smoother in the upper midrange and more forgiving, without losing detail. In this regard, it is special.

I will stress, these differences are VERY minor, and I would put them both in the same ballpark. I had to VERY critically listen to find the differences.

How did you get your hands on those being prototypes?

The owner of Jupiter Condenser turned me on to them. He made a special batch of them for an amplifier manufacturer, and had some spares that happened to be the exact value I needed.. I am in the audio business also.... In that, I was able to order factory direct instead of going through a dealer.

From what little I gathered from talking to Chris at Jupiter the other day was....that the latest version (to be production) is much better than the prototypes.  He has been playing around with copper caps for quite awhile and what Paul 79 has may be several prototype versions ago (maybe Paul can do some research and find out).  The prototypes just before now where tested to be better than the Dueland and now even better.  This is the trouble with prototypes....they don't represent the final product.....especially when the product can be tweaked at any minute by the manufacturer.  Jupiter makes the caps themselves, so they can make several new versions a day, if they like.  I talked to one person that put the "last? prototype" in his tube amp and he said he is hearing things he never heard before (the proto replacing cast copper Dueland).  This is how I found out about the cap and immediately called Chris to get more info.  We shall have to wait till production to find out what is the real deal.  Chris had some protos that he was willing to sell me......but they are not the "latest version that sounds better".  I want the best.....everyone does.
