Soundproof Unfinished Attic Floor
« on: 9 Sep 2013, 09:15 pm »
The air handler above my listening room has finally died, so my whole system is being replaced.  They are going to try to hang the new one from the rafters, which is apparently a common thing to do to reduce noise being transmitted through the attic floor (ie listening room ceiling).  The attic above my listening room is unfinished.  I'm just wondering what else I could do to the attic floor to increase the noise isolation.  It is already heavily inulated.  I've been considering having mass loaded vinyl sheets stapled to the rafters on top of the insulation.  My thinking is that it would probably be a pretty good vapour barrier too.  I live in the Caribbean, so my attic is always hot.  Any thoughts?
