IC: Salk Songtowers SOLD
« on: 6 Sep 2013, 07:15 pm »
I am so torn on this one....

THE GOOD:

I have a pair of Salk Songtowers, with the standard tweeter, finished in absolutely stunning curly walnut. They have the full wood front baffle--and personally, I wouldn't buy a set of Salks without that feature. This was an early pair, build by Jim Salk himself, and the craftsmanship is impeccable. It's a cliche, sure, but pictures do not do these speakers justice. (I get compliments on them all the time from non-audiophile friends.)

Most importantly, they sound excellent too. Reviews are all over the web. Rest assured, I think the reviews are accurate

THE BAD:

These speakers suffered shipping damage (even though they were shipped in the original boxes by the original owner). The left speaker is damaged on the left rear corner. In my room, with my speaker placement, the damage wasn't noticeable--depending on your set-up, the damage might be much more apparent.

THE REASON FOR  THE SALE:

I had a chance to pick up a set of Gallo Nucleus Solos recently, and they have a gorgeous but different sound signature. Truth is, if money wasn't an issue right now I would be keeping the Salks, but I figure I can always buy another set (if I pony up the cash) but it will be a long time before I run into another set of copper colored Nucleus Solos.

These speakers are for local pick-up only.

THE GOOD THING ABOUT THE BAD THING:
If you've been looking at Salks, you probably know how wonderful they sound, and how gorgeous they look. You probably also know they hold their value very well. So, if you can live with the cosmetic issues on one of the speakers, you can get yourself an excellent deal. With the hardwood baffles, these would run $2300 plus shipping from Salk.

MY PRICE:

$SOLD   Pick up only from Los Angeles 90049.

I doubt you could get a better combination of sound, appearance, and craftsmanship.

btw, the pics with flash, while capturing the luster of the speakers make them appear look redder than they do in person. The non-flash pics better capture the color of the finish.

Those are great looking Songtowers, dings and all. I'm sure with a bit of advice from Jim Salk or a local cabinetry shop these scratches can be dramatically reduced.

I'm a big fan of the older Gallo stuff - I've owned the Solos, Ref I, Ref II, and Ultimates over the years.  If I found a good pair of Ref II I would likely sell both my VMPS RM2 and Dynaudio Focus 220.

Best of luck with the sale; I imagine your Songtowers will disappear quickly at that price.

That really is a beautiful finish on the Songtowers.
