BDP-1 with USB3
« on: 4 Sep 2013, 10:43 am »
This may have been ask before, just wondering if the BDP1 will support USB 3 external HDD.
I have the WD 500gb HDD as a back up unit just in case. Its a USB3 compatible with USB2 as what its says.
I tried and plug it in to the BDP1 and got this error message 09 and freezes.

USB 3 is backward compatible, however BDP-1 may not have enough power to deal with your hard drive (try with one of the back USB slots since those have more amps)
Other solution is to connect a powered USB hub to the BDP and connect the hdd to the hub.

Thats what exactly what i did.Get it connected to the lower back usb port.By the way its only a 500gb hdd.

Hi

If 09 shows up then there is something going on with the drive.  500G should not be issue - I use the Western Digital 1TB Passport drives on the BDP-1 without issue.

I use a Samsung S2 1Tb USB3 drive on my BDP1 with no problems at all. Great value drive.

Cheers

Disconnect the usb2hdd and connect the usb3 with the power still on,it plays with no issue.
Power off and on to the bdp1,the error code 09 and 191 displayed.
The bdp1 aes/ebu light remain red. :duh:

James,
Could it be with the firmware issues? I can't remember when was the last time i got the firmware updated.
For sure i know its not the up to date firmware that i have for the bdp1.

During the power on self test of that the BDP's mainboard performs the power supply is at maximum stress. The drive you have attached just happens to draw just enough power to deprive the mainboard enough power to fully power up, thus failing the test.
