The Pentatone Beethoven Piano Sonata cycle by Mari Kodama may not be everyone's favorite for pure performance (although I love them; I know little else) the native DSD recordings are amazing.  The sound of the piano, in your room, is what first brought me to DSD as a real special format.

Caveat:  Only for DSD-capable DACs.  I find the HDtracks PCM conversions of these recordings sorely average at-best.

I have one, and yes, the sonic rendering is excellent.  Actually, the Ashkenazy performance from Rachminoff Piano Sonata #2 on London is unbelievable, very life like.

When you've played for years, you have a different take on what sounds natural.  Every piece should sound intimate to me, because I sat at the piano.  David Fung's "Evening Conversations" is the closest I've heard of having the piano in your parlor.  Many pieces, Chopin etudes, Beethovan sonatas, Bach inventions,  were meant to be played and heard in intimate settings.  This cd is as close to hearing what the pianist hears as I have found.  Yarlung records has a nice group of very high end recording.  At their website, about $20.  At Amazon, considerably less, almost too cheap to be legit- $5.30 ???
